Museum of the History of Russian Life

The Museum of the History of Russian Life is a branch of the T.D. Shuvaev Nizhnevartovsk Museum of Local History, which preserves and promotes the traditional culture of Russians in Western Siberia. The museum introduces visitors to the everyday life, traditions, and customs of the Starozhichel population of Western Siberia. You will visit a peasant hut, a room, and a merchant's room from the early 20th century.

The idea for the museum was supported by long-time residents of the city, the administration, and the staff of the local history museum. The museum opened on March 10, 2003. The museum grounds feature a peasant farmstead with outbuildings, as well as a two-story wooden house, which recreates the interiors of a peasant hut, a merchant's room, and a room from the Soviet period (1930s–1950s). The museum's collection contains over 700 items of Russian material culture, collected by staff during ethnographic expeditions to villages and towns in the Nizhnevartovsk district and the Tyumen and Kurgan regions. A guided tour of the Museum of the History of Russian Life tells the story of the life, culture, and daily life of the first settlers of the village of Nizhnevartovskoye, specifically from the construction of the pier in the early 20th century until the early 1970s, when Nizhnevartovskoye was transformed into a workers' settlement. The tour includes outbuildings and a peasant hut from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as a room from the 1940s-1960s during the Stalin period. In addition, the tour includes materials about the lives and fates of the village's first settlers: V.I. Pankin, P.I. Kaidalova, M.S. Tyrchnov, and A.Ya. Kushnikov.
